Q. What is FAM?
|
A. FAM stands for
"Familiarization Trip". Travel providers and tourism
boards are always looking for ways to generate
interest in different types of travel. Often, travel
agents are offered heavily discounted package deals
that are oriented towards educating them about
specific destinations, suppliers and packages so
that they may better be able to recommend and sell
travel to their clients at retail travel prices. FAM
trips are the best travel deals available and are
only available to travel agents. Commissions are not
earned for FAM trips and other Agent discounted
rates.
|
|
Q. How do I book a FAM?
|
A. To learn about
FAMs, view a list of FAMs and learn how to book a
FAM trip, go to the FAMs icon on the Agents Only
homepage. Also, check your regular email update from
InteleTravel.com, called InteleBytes, for the latest
FAM trips, Agent rates and travel offers you can
sell to your friends and other customers.
|
|
Q. What are the
benefits of my using my InteleTravel Agent ID
card when I travel?
|
A. The InteleTravel
Agent ID Card entitles you to receive industry
rates, discounts and upgrades reserved only for
travel agents. Often, these benefits result in huge
savings and VIP treatment. What benefits you receive
vary based on supplier and location. Some of the
more frequent benefits include car rental upgrades
at the counter, car rental discounts, hotel room
upgrades, hotel room discounts, and discounts off
admission to theme parks and museums. Sometimes,
agents even receive complimentary room nights or
rental days.

|
Q. How do I use my
InteleTravel Agent ID card?
|
A. When traveling,
be sure to introduce yourself to travel suppliers as
an Independent Travel Agent and present your Photo
ID card. It’s a good idea to have an InteleTravel
business card on hand (some suppliers require this
identification). To order business cards, click on
"Sales Tools" from the Agent menu. Agent rates,
upgrades and other courtesies are at the discretion
of the travel supplier.
|
|
Q. What is the
difference between the IATAN ID Card and my
InteleTravel ID Card?
|
A. The InteleTravel
Agent ID Card identifies you as an Independent
Travel Agent with InteleTravel.com. It bears the
8-digit International Airlines Transport Association
(IATA) number issued to InteleTravel. The IATAN ID
Card is different from the IATA number that
identifies InteleTravel.com. Beginning Agents
qualify for a variety of discounts and privileges;
however, some suppliers reserve discounts for Agents
who have proven their ability to sell travel. As a
measure of sales ability, an IATAN Card is issued to
a list of Agents or Independent Agents who meet
certain qualifications: being at least 18 years of
age, a minimum 20-hour work week booking travel and
annual commissions of $5,000 or more (about $100,000
to $120,000 in travel sales). Extending agent
privileges and discounts are at the discretion of
travel vendors and may depend upon space
availability and other factors. Determine in advance
of booking what an individual vendor requires to
extend travel agent privileges or discounted rates.
|
|
Q. What kind of rates
are listed in the booking engines?
|
A. Rates in booking
engines are published rates by travel suppliers.
Most are discounted, however these are not
considered Agent discount rates. Use the online
engines to book travel for friends, family and
clients and earn commissions. To determine if there
is an Agent Rate or FAM trip available, contact
suppliers directly. Remember, commissions are not
earned from Agent rates and FAMs.
|
|
Q. When will I receive
my commission checks?
|
A. Commissions are
"earned" when InteleTravel.com receives payment from
the travel Supplier (hotel, cruise line, etc.),
typically 30-45 days after travel has been
completed. Please do not request commissions upon
purchase and payment, prior to travel, immediately
after travel is complete, or anytime prior to 60
days after travel is complete. Until then, your
commission report will show pending travel sales
with Total Charges, but no commission amounts
calculated. Commissions are paid to you within 10
business days following the close of the month in
which commissions are paid to InteleTravel.com by
the Supplier. A minimum of $5.00 per month is
required for checks to be issued. Monthly
commissions of less than $5.00 will be accrued and
paid within 10 business days following the close of
the month in which the balance in your account meets
the minimum.

|
Q. How do I know how
much commission I will receive? How do I get 80%
commissions instead of 70%? What is the 10%
Residual Override? How much do I earn on
airfare-only purchases?
|
A. Easy to
understand answers and examples for all of these
travel commission questions, and more, may be found
by logging onto InteleTravel.com with your Agent PIN
and Password, and clicking on the Commmission link
in the Agent menu.
|
|
Q. If I have recently
moved, changed my phone number or e-mail
address, how do I update my records? Can I
change my password, too?
|
A. To change any
personal information, refer to the agent menu and
click on My Profile. You can change your address,
phone number, e-mail address, credit card, and
password.
|
|
Q. What happens on my
one year anniversary as an Independent Travel
Agent?
|
A. Active Agents
are not charged any Annual Renewal Fees or
Re-Application Charges. However, your photo ID Card
does expire and it’s important to travel with valid
Independent Travel Agent credentials. Active Agents
in good standing will automatically have a new ID
Card issued. To avoid confusion, you should discard
your old ID card. The $7.95 shipping/handling charge
for the production and postage of your new ID Card
will be billed to the credit card on file. We can
use your current photo from your expired ID or you
can supply us with a new one by emailing
customerservice@inteletravel.com.
